2018 #GivingTuesday a good day to help your neighbors in need

Now in its seventh year, #GivingTuesday has helped people all over the world with gifts of money, time and assistance.

The effort, held the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving, serves as an opportunity for people to include charitable organizations in their holiday plans.

Here in Bucks County, there is an opportunity to assist your neighbors in need and organizers hope the annual Give A Christmas fund will be on your #GivingTuesday gift list.

The Bucks County Courier Times, along with the Levittown-Bristol Kiwanis Club, is asking readers to open their hearts and wallets to help hundreds of local families this holiday season. This year marks the 61st anniversary of the Give A Christmas fund, which hopes to meet its goal of raising $120,000.

The money collected is distributed primarily as $25 vouchers for children in struggling families in Lower Bucks County. The vouchers are redeemable at participating local supermarkets and other stores.

In the 2017 holiday season, donors contributed $114,812.31 which allowed for the distribution of vouchers to 4,155 children in Lower Bucks County.

With help from educators in Lower Bucks County’s schools and other agencies working with people in need, letters from families in need and names of others are provided to the Kiwanis Club for the distribution of vouchers.
