WHO WE ARE
We are a team of data and investigative journalists. Some of us are veteran reporters; others recent college grads. All of us have and/or were finalists for numerous national awards including the Pulitzer, Selden Ring, Goldsmith, Batten Medal, Sigma Delta Chi, Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award, Scripps Howard, etc.
WHAT WE DO
We write data-driven and investigative stories of national and regional significance for GateHouse Media, which owns more than 150 daily newspapers nationwide. We’re obsessed with hitting home runs, but we need to generate regular content — no team wins on home runs alone; we need singles and doubles to keep us going.
Our work runs across the chain, in newspapers like The Columbus Dispatch, Austin American-Statesman, Palm Beach Post and The Eugene Register-Guard.
In addition to doing our own top-notch projects that elevate the reputation of the entire chain, we collaborate with our individual properties. Sometimes we wrangle data for them. Sometimes we file and manage hundreds of FOIAs. We have even partnered with them on entire projects.
WHO YOU ARE
You’re a recent college graduate or currently enrolled at a college or university. You love finding new data, mining it for stories, reporting them out, and seeing them get published. You’re comfortable using data tools (Excel, RStudio, Google BigQuery, for example) and documenting data processes in GitHub.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Our interns produce regular data-driven, national stories to be published and/or localized across the GateHouse Media network. They also assist our team with major investigations and sometimes provide data services and project assistance to our colleagues at GateHouse Media newspapers nationwide.

Location: Sarasota, Florida (inside the Sarasota Herald-Tribune newsroom)
