One of the best developments over the last two years has been Central Ohio’s expanding list of vegan and vegetarian options. Portia’s Café has long been the benchmark, and its owner has since expanded into all-American breakfast fare with Portia’s Diner. Woman-owned and -operated Woodhouse Vegan Café in Italian Village makes plant-based fare that’s accessible and fun, with flavorful takes on Skyline chili and loaded nachos. For pizza, look to Paulie Gee’s lineup of excellent vegan options. Fourth & State, from the owners of the plant-based burger spot Eden Burger, provides a much-needed vegan option Downtown, while newcomer Lifestyle Café is one to watch in Olde Towne East. Meanwhile, one of the most celebrated restaurant openings of 2019 was Comune, which takes plant-based dining to new, creative heights on Parsons Avenue.
