By the numbers: Oregon juvenile offenders
Forty juveniles were referred to the Oregon Youth Authority in 2017 for a sexual offense, according to the juvenile justice information system data and evaluation report.
Of the 40 referrals, one of those was female, 38 were males, and one was "unknown," according to the data and evaluation report. Six of those 40 were 12 or younger, 18 were 13 to 15 years old, and 16 were 16 or older. The vast majority were white males, with three African-American offenders, one Hispanic offender and four "other/unknown."
In 2016, there were 54 referrals for sexual offenders, including two females, 51 males and one unknown gender. There were 15 offenders 12 and younger; 20 were 13 to 15 years old, and 19 were 16 or older.
In 2015, there were 53 sex offense referrals, 52 males and one female. Seven were 12 and younger, 32 were 13 to 15 years old, and 14 were 16 or older.
In 2014, there were 50 sex offense referrals, including 49 males and one female. Nine of those were 12 and younger, 24 were 13 to 15 years old, and 17 were 16 or older.
In 2013, there were 41 sex offense referrals, including 40 males and one female. Ten were 12 or younger, 20 were 13 to 15 years old, and 11 were 16 or older.
